Rock climbers: Deliberate or precautionary risk takers in relation to sensation-seeking

چکیده

A group of rock climbers were classified into two categories, deliberate or precautionary risk-takers, using the Risk-Taking Inventory (RTI). The aim study was to determine if these categories played a role in sensation-seeking behaviour. also aimed type risk-taking behaviour correlated with number injuries sustained by participants. quantitative nature and an exploratory design used. sample 70 from Mountain Club South Africa participated. Participants completed demographic questionnaire, RTI Sensation Seeking Scale-V. Non-parametric statistics results revealed statistically significant differences between groups on total score Scale-V its subscales Disinhibition Boredom Susceptibility. No correlations observed sustained. positive correlation was, however, found years climbing. indicated that being risk-taker will have impact climbers’ but no effect sustain.

Lumbrical tears in rock climbers.

Performance rock climbing places high demands on the hand and may lead to specific injuries. In a "one-finger-pocket" hold, the interphalangeal joints remain in 20-40 degrees flexion. To increase the maximum force of the holding finger by the quadriga effect, the interphalangeal joints of the adjacent fingers become almost maximally flexed. Holding a "one-finger-pocket" with the ring or small f...

This increase in standards has led to injuries associated ...

Diminished P300 to physical risk in sensation seeking.

Zuckerman's theory proposes individual differences in optimal arousal and arousability level as the root of the sensation-seeking trait. The current study addressed how sensation seeking influences responses to emotional arousal at the electrophysiological level during a passive viewing task and at the psychometrical level during a self-assessment task. Electrophysiologically, high sensation se...

Soft tissue injury in extreme rock climbers.

Rock climbing is an increasingly popular sport. Its standards of difficulty have undergone a revolution in the past ten years. Regular training is now almost mandatory for the aspiring climber, but little has been published about the patterns of soft tissue injury to which climbers are susceptible.
